Lello Bookshop, the Harry Potter Bookshop in Porto

Right in the heart of Porto’s historic centre, just a stone’s throw from the Clérigos Tower, stands one of the world’s most famous bookshops. Lello Bookshop is not just a space dedicated to literature, but also a true architectural gem and one of the great cultural icons of this Portuguese city. Definitely a must-see in Porto!

By booking this ticket, you’ll gain access to this building, which opened in 1906, and can explore its elegant rooms at your leisure. From the very first moment, your attention will be drawn to its impressive central staircase made of red wood, designed with curved lines and Neo-Gothic ornamentation that look as though they’ve been plucked from a fantasy film.

Did you know that many people associate this place with the world of Harry Potter? Although it was never officially confirmed, the bookshop is linked to the period when J. K. Rowling lived in Porto and worked as an English teacher. Its interior is inevitably reminiscent of the settings at Hogwarts!

During your visit, you’ll also be able to admire the ceilings decorated with plaster mouldings, the carved wooden bookshelves and the spectacular polychrome stained-glass ceiling, featuring the motto ‘Decus in Labore’, which means ‘dignity in work’.
