Do you like art and nature? On this day trip to Normandy from Paris, you'll discover the cliffs that Impressionist painters in Étretat depicted and visit the charming port of Honfleur, which was also painted on many canvases.
Cliffs of Étretat & Port of Honfleur from Paris
We'll pick you up at Avenue de Wagram, number 1, and from this location next to the Arc de Triomphe, we'll leave Paris behind to set off to the region of Normandy. Ready to discover the real-life settings depicted by the Impressionists in their paintings?
After a journey of approximately 2.5 hours, we'll first reach the charming town of Étretat. Once there, you'll have about 3 hours of free time to explore this coastal town, an icon in Art History, at your own pace. The reason? The cliffs of Étretat were represented in their canvas by important artists like Claude Monet.
Along with its coastal landscapes, Étretat is also known for other attractions such as Le Clos Arsène Lupin, the house-museum dedicated to the famous writer, Maurice Leblanc, who created the adventures of Arsène Lupin: one of the most famous thieves in French literature.
It's also well worth visiting the Étretat Gardens and the Monument to the L'Oiseau Blanc. This monument is dedicated to Charles Nungesser and François Coli: two famous aviation heroes who, as they piloted the L'Oiseau Blanc biplane in 1927, disappeared without a trace.
After enjoying the landscapes and history of Étretat, where you can also taste the famous Normandy cuisine, we'll embark on a journey of approximately 1 hour toward Honfleur. Did you know its port is also immortalized by Monet and other painters such as Eugène Boudin or Albert Marquet?
You'll have 3 hours of free time to explore the Old Port of Honfleur. Next to its piers, you'll find the Église Sainte-Catherine, the largest wooden church in France. Next to the church is the historic building of the Lieutenance, the former residence of the King's lieutenant, a reflection of the city's rich heritage.
Finally, we'll start our journey back to the meeting point in Paris, where we'll conclude this 13-hour trip.
